Linville Gorge
Named for explorer William Linville and his son, John, who were killed by Cherokees in the gorge in 1766. The Cherokee name for the river was Eeseeoh, a river of many cliffs."

Wiseman's View
Named for LaFayette "Uncle Fete" Wiseman. This was his favorite campsite when taking out salt-licks for the cattle that grazed on the mountain during the summer. Just one look at the view is enough to realize that Uncle Fete was a right smart fellow.

Cabin Trail
Area people built this crude cabin at the river end of a trail to use when they hunted and fished.

Lettered Rock Ridge
Legend is the Cherokees painted letters or markings on a rock at the turn off point to the Table Rock.

Table Rock
Called "Attacoa" by the Cherokees, the rock was their mystic altar for sacred ceremonies.

Conley Cove
The William Conley Family, who owned a large plantation nearby, built a small log house here for hunting parties.
