Baseball Coastal Plain League: Edenton Historic Hicks Field Coupons

As many of you know, Lynn is a big baseball fan. With the exception of a relatively new ballpark in Winston-Salem (which we hear is great), it is at every stage of small Carolina League. It also had some of the many stages of Coastal Plain League in North and South Carolina as well. Coastal Plain League features top college players using wooden clubs. Last night, paid for Lynn Hicks Field Edenton Town to see the playoff game between the Petit Cup Steamers Edenton and Wilmington Sharks (Edenton won the Cup Final 7-1 to proceed against the Gastonia Petit).

Hicks Field was built in the WPA project in 1939, and it’s a classic. It is the oldest surviving wooden grandstand of its kind in North Carolina. Bob Feller once been there, and the stadium has hosted a number of minor league and collegiate teams over the years. Hicks Field was a large-scale renovation in 1997, including two new grandstands down both baselines, manual wooden scoreboard beyond the right field fence (pictured), and the green monster that fence to the left. Steamer joined the fledgling Coastal Plain League in 1998.

Now known as the “hottest baseball summer league collegiate nation” and is celebrating its 15th season. A total of 15 teams playing in Carolina and Virginia. CPL gives college players the opportunity to hone their skills in the use of wood bats. Players are placed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. CPL has been established for over 930 students and 45 are large companies only. Wilson Tobs play another WPA-built stadium, historic Fleming Stadium was built in 1938 and is also home to a highly recommended North Carolina Baseball Museum.
