Historic Salisbury North Carolina Attractions

Clyde – The structure of newspapers in 1840, overlooking the main gate of the prison once stood. This structure was home to a garrison for the guards and all that remains of the military prison at Salisbury. Come see the artifacts at the site of the prison of the Confederacy.

Historic Downtown Salisbury – Come take a guided walking tour, which covers 30 blocks of historic landmarks, including Dr. Josephus Hall House, built in 1820 as the Salisbury Female Academy, and the Utzman-Chambers House, a 1819 Federal town house.

Historic Rockwell Museum – with new exhibits to show each spring and fall, it never gets old. The artifacts can be seen from the late 19th century and the beginning of 20.

Historic Salisbury Trolley Tour – the guides have in the past of the rich history of Salisbury, with the visit of the historic center. You will get a close view of many personalities who have shaped the city both past and present!

Salisbury History and Art Trail – El Camino has the sites, markers, monuments and art in relation to people and places significant local history, culture, industry and the arts. This unique background lies mainly in the center of Salisbury, and is a great way to spend an afternoon visiting the city.

North Carolina Transportation Museum – The museum has thirteen buildings, 57 acres, including a restored Roundhouse, and exhibits on early transportation. It is located at the site of what was once Southern Railway’s largest steam locomotive repair shop. Come and see some amazing vintage cars “bumper to bumper” and traces the history of transportation in “Wagons, Wheels & Wings”. Day work experience in the restored 1924 railroad shop Robert Julian roundhouse.Seasonal train travel are available to pay as an audiovisual show, visitor center and gift shop.

Dan Nicholas Park & Campground – The Family Campground is open all year round and offers some really much to do! If you like fishing you’re lucky. There is a 10 hectare lake to take out paddle boats, and spend the day fishing. There are also tennis courts available, as well as several football fields, mini golf and other sports such as volleyball and horseshoes … wait horseshoe is a sport? There are picnic areas, a carousel for children and even a little train for children to ride. There are also wildlife adventure Rowan, and a freshwater aquarium! This is the place to be if you love the outdoors! And believe it or there is still much to do!

Rowan County Bike – Choose your map at the visitors center in detail the system of cycle paths with five numbered routes and a system of connectors that are unsigned. This 226-mile system connecting cities, towns, attractions and recreational areas through the light traveled routes favored by local cyclists. This is a great way to explore the county of Rowan.

Eagle Point Nature Preserve – 4.5 miles of trails with views of the lake and wildlife observation points, visitors can borrow 200 acres of natural area away from the High Rock Lake. With nature trails, canoe access during the season, and fishing from the shore, enjoy a quiet afternoon in nature.

RiverPark – free to the public RiverPark Cooleemee Falls has great picnic area, canoe portage, hiking, restrooms and an ideal environment for fun and adventure!

Tamarac Marina & Campground – High Rock Lake is 15,000 acre reservoir is a great boat Yadkin River and the FIS – hing opportunities.

Yadkin River Trail – The Yadkin River, which is part of the county northeast of Rowan, is a picturesque river, ideal for canoeing and rafting. If you prefer just to stay afloat on the river, you can enjoy the beauty of nature and natural vegetation. Access to the boat is on the road off Old Mocksville Hannah Ferry Road. Fishing and duck hunting are permitted in season with an appropriate license. Trail maps are available at the Rowan County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
