Cape Hatteras

As the highest of all the lighthouses in North Carolina, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse warned sailors for more than one hundred years a low sandbar that extends from about fourteen kilometers from the coast into the sea. Light is seen miles of the sea. As the ships trying to navigate the North Carolina Coast, Diamond Shoals, an ever-changing series of shallow submerged sand bars, turned out to be the only challenge.

This area is also known as two strong currents that collide off Ocracoke and Hatteras islands, which make it difficult for ships to sail within the coming very close to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Now, it was not always dangerous, but as we all know, North Carolina coast will bring strong wind and heavy storms, and if the ship was dominated by nature, he could s’ to prove a fateful decision that we know the history of North Carolina.

The worst part is that there are no natural landmarks, so the boats are really grounded and in trouble before you even know what happened!

The lighthouse is open from April to mid October.
